Title: NEW AND FURRY

Valon - February 7, 2006 02:34 AM (GMT)
Yea I am new to the game. Thanks to Zivan I am a member of the linkshell. I am a mithra and I male irl. Most mithras I have talked to are males as well. I have no idea why can you help me? Oh can you also give me a few pointers on the game.

Seril - February 7, 2006 03:05 AM (GMT)
Welcome =O :cook:

Valon - February 11, 2006 03:43 AM (GMT)
I get bored not playing, and I get bored when playing. NO ONE WANTS TO PARTY WITH ME! :yell:

Kerrick - February 11, 2006 08:07 AM (GMT)
Go to Valkrum Dunes if you want a party, there are a lot of people there generally seeking a party. It's a good place to get a feel for a party setting and a lot of people there are new to the game as well. If you need someone to show you the way then all you have to do is ask.

Valon - February 12, 2006 02:48 AM (GMT)
I know that, but I dont get much exp

Kerrick - February 12, 2006 04:15 AM (GMT)
Actually, in most cases, and noticed that I said 'in most', you will get more xp in a party setting than trying to solo unless you are a skilled beastmaster. SE even said it never intended jobs to solo past level 10.

Valon - February 12, 2006 04:15 PM (GMT)
I only fight there when I am in a party. I still dont get much exp. When I fight snipers I get like 150, no much and it takes a long time to kill.

Wafuru - February 12, 2006 05:13 PM (GMT)
Welcome to FFXI. You'll get between about 150-200 per kill in a good party from now on.

Valon - February 12, 2006 05:42 PM (GMT)
Thanks. Well it takes so long to fight snipers. And it is so hard to find a party that will fight snipers.

Chernabog - February 12, 2006 05:59 PM (GMT)
To kill snipers sanely you need at least one Black Mage (2 would be ok as well). Two NINs tanking rocks no matter what level (less healing because of Utsusemi). If your pt gets a NIN without Utsusemi with the intention to have him tank, and he's at least level 12, if he doesn't have the spell or enough Shihei, boot his ass out of the party.

If you get high enough level in Valkurm Dunes, you can try going against the Goblins in the area (be careful of Bomb Toss, as it does damage to everyone near the mob). If you have a MNK in your party, have him be ready to use Shoulder Tackle (weapon skill) as soon as he sees "Goblin blahblah readies Bomb Toss." When your WHM is lv15, have them cast Silence on the spellcasting Goblins (Leechers especially, as they can Cure themselves).

The last thing to think about is Demselflies. They're difficult, and you have to be careful of poison status effects, so make sure the WHM has Poisona (at these early levels there's really no excuse to not having a spell... The only WHM spells I can understand not having right away is Erase [lv32], and the Teles [lv36+].).

I would think @ level 12 you might still be a little low to take on Snippers. I would stick to lizards and Goblins near the Kon. Highlands zone till the party is at least 13 to 14, then I usually head towards the beach area and fight some snippers and perhaps flies as the party levels. From there you can move on to fight Goblins in a couple of locations. But don't let the mentality that 200+xp per kill is the only good xp, getting 100 to 150xp per kill is just as good as most times the mobs are less hassle to kill.

Valon - February 12, 2006 11:23 PM (GMT)
Want to know how boring long msg are, oh well. I am lvl 13, but I lvl down 2 times. but I am about half way tnl.

Elixiru - February 12, 2006 11:54 PM (GMT)
Considering that an even match comes out at about 50 exp, getting 150 exp/kill means your party is taking on mobs that are about 6-7 levels higher than themselves. Keep that in mind.

Oftentimes, getting 250 exp per kill means it takes you 15 minutes to kill that mob. I've had parties where we're only getting 80-120exp/kill but we're chaining so fast we're getting 6k/hour.

Valon - February 13, 2006 01:17 AM (GMT)
And what is your lvl again?

Wafuru - February 13, 2006 01:57 AM (GMT)
Um, I'm not sure who you're talking to, but Elixiru is a 60 WHM, Kerrick is a 75 RDM and I'm a 66 RDM.

Valon - February 13, 2006 04:33 AM (GMT)
Well at least I know. I was just asking cause 6k an hour that is not much for you lvls I guess, not sure cause I never been that lvl.

Kerrick - February 13, 2006 06:33 AM (GMT)
Actually 6k an hour is pretty decent. When you hit 70+ you can't find mobs strong enough to kill so you chain Very Toughs and Toughs for experience, but you chain them so fast that you get decent xp. This game is about patience and high financing. Farming and eating massive amounts of sedatives will keep you in tune!

Valon - February 13, 2006 01:47 PM (GMT)
Hmmm......... Well I herd this game is about meny differnt things. Some one just make up you mind.

I not gona care for now. I am still new and geting pertty good Exp at the dunes.

Parody - February 13, 2006 08:46 PM (GMT)
lol I'm happy with 3k an hour exp

Valon - February 14, 2006 01:36 PM (GMT)
I wish I could get 3-4k a hour. But one of the party members goes over 3 lvl from the lowest lvl and he leaves. Then we trie to find a new member and ends up never finding one. Yet in the end the party dibands leaving me to get to Selbina before I die. But all I need is 2 healers and 4 melee. I hate when this happens.

TheHammer - February 14, 2006 03:58 PM (GMT)
well I am not sure what all the hype is over nin tanks in the dunes, most of the older players can remember when mostly wars tanked in the dune and we killed pretty fast!

Ziero - February 14, 2006 05:09 PM (GMT)
Wars are the best tanks till 37 Imo >.>

Wafuru - February 14, 2006 06:17 PM (GMT)
PLD starts getting pretty good 20+ as far as tankage goes, though they don't really shine until they get eisen/kampfplatte. WAR/MNK is pretty good til 30 or 35, 37 maybe. Would depend on the healer. Dual NINs is pretty good, assuming they're good NIN. If they suck, it's beyond crappy.

Valon - February 16, 2006 02:04 PM (GMT)
Well I am a war, most of the time I pt I am the tank. One time when I was pt we had a ninja and he tank, I dont under stand why ninjas can tank.

Wafuru - February 16, 2006 03:11 PM (GMT)
They tank because of Utsusemi. It's guaranteed to absorb standard melee attacks or single-target spells cast on the user. Some special tp moves take more than one shadow, and -ga spells will wipe all shadows, so Ninjas aren't good at tanking these mobs. However, a good Ninja tanking the right mobs will never take any damage (or very little).

Omitsuko - February 17, 2006 04:34 AM (GMT)
Unless the player is highly skilled and has very good gear, he/she won't be able to tank well as a NIN at that level. Before utsusemi? Forget it. Even then, a NIN will need a voke partner.
